CLEARing cars from the road

Too many cars on the road!

CAT has been collaborating with sustainable transport experts Transport for Quality of Life to examine ways to help people reduce car use.  As part of the study, we have conducted research with samples of CAT staff, members and MSc students.

Debates about car use can lead to people feeling judged for driving, or that they are being asked to give up their car altogether.  We believe it is more fruitful to talk about how people can use cars “a bit less.”  Seemingly small changes can can be significant.  For instance, two people who start to car-share twice a fortnight, instead of driving alone every day, make a reduction of 10% in carbon terms – far better than many official, well-funded carbon reduction schemes.
