It was a fine day. The planting took place next to a primary school, in an area known variously as Gorse Field or Brooke Hill Wood, and a number of people turned up. We were shown how to plant a tree with the spade provided, heel it in and then put a collar over it; and over two thirds of the Woodland Trust’s target of a thousand trees had been planted by the end of the session at 1pm.

Oakham is close to Melton Mowbray, famous for its cheeses (this is where most Stilton comes from) and pork pies. If you live in the Birmingham area it is about 90 minutes away by car; but we were told of a more mature wood at Martinshaw which it would be interesting to visit. Let us know if this is something you would like to do.
