An African Green Revolution

Sub-Saharan Africa is witnessing a population explosion, forcing farmers to exploit land for crops that they used to let lie fallow.  This leads to soil nutrient depletion.  Kofi Annan’s call for an African Green Revolution would see large-scale adoption of fertilizer instead of imports of millions of tons of grain and mining phosphate rock merely for export.
